Time to ponder over your career this Christmas?

Many of you will be looking forward to enjoying a bit of a break over the festive period; eating too much turkey, mince pies and mulled wine. But while you are digesting on the sofa, take a moment to think about what you are really wanting to do in 2012.

We’re not just talking new years resolutions of ‘I need to drop a dress size’ or ‘I must stop eating the whole bar of chocolate whilst watching Downton Abbey’. Instead, start to ask yourself the crucial questions that will affect your choices as the new year creeps in. Are you happy in your current position at work? Are you getting paid enough? Where do you see yourself come this time next year?

Many firms also see the New Year as an ideal time to reassess their company structure and grow their teams accordingly. So now is a great time for change on both the client and candidates sides.

Successful PR Interviews – How you can do it!

PR Job InterviewsTo make sure you stay in the running when going for a new PR job – check out the major issues in a public relations job interview:

  • Presentation: Public relations job interviews are essentially presentations. You must engage the interviewers and get them interested in what you have to say. Your presentation is your own personal PR.
  • Interview content: You need to fit solid content into your public relations job interview. Don’t use unnecessary expressions, clichés or overextended statements. Don’t answer any question off the cuff. Think about everything you say.
  • Appearance and dress: PR people have to present themselves both to media and to clients on a regular basis. Do not give the impression that you’re too casual.
  • Don’t be “average” or “industry standard” in this interview. Like a PR campaign, you need to establish a unique brand identity for yourself. Standout interviewees are often the only people actually considered for jobs.
  • Employer background: Researching a potential employer is always a good idea, but in PR it’s absolutely essential because of the diversity of the market and the PR firms. No two are alike, in terms of clientele and market operations. You must prove you understand the employer’s current business. Ask relevant questions about the business when you receive the opportunity.

Good Luck!!!
